Kate was raised on her family’s farm in scenic Northern Michigan. Growing up playing in, and tending to, her mother’s gardens instilled in her a love of flowers and a curiosity in growing things during her most formative years. While studying painting and drawing in college she discovered the works of Old Master painters which impressed on her an appreciation for historical floral design as well as a deep interest in color theory.
The influences of nature, art, and the rural countryside of her childhood continue as the foundation of her aesthetic. Her floral style seamlessly weaves these elements together to make something truly distinctive. She believes that flowers should harmonize with the environment in which they are placed and uses locally grown and foraged materials whenever possible to ensure a unified effect. Often she uses flowers or foliage from her own garden. Each floral element is carefully planned with the client to ensure not only lovely flowers, but an event that feels uniquely suited to and reflective of her client’s vision and personality.
Kate has called Greenville, SC home for over ten years and enjoys traveling, often finding herself heading north to Michigan and her roots.
